Pienza and Val d'Orcia

Discovering the Francigena Road.

- Val d’Orcia is a broad valley set between the provinces of Siena and Grosseto, north-east of the Monte Amiata and close to the border with Umbria. The Orcia river, which gives the name to the valley, passes through it and the valley is characterized by hill landscapes and several Medieval hamlets, like the very famous Pienza and Montalcino. The world famous village of Montepulciano, very famous for its wines, undoubtedly deserves to be visited. (We recommend you the wines Rosso and Nobile di Montepulciano). Other very characteristic villages are : San Quirico d’Orcia, Radicofani, Castiglione d’Orcia, Bagno Vignoni, Bagni San Filippo and Castel del Piano.- The historic centre of Pienza has been declared Unesco World Heritage and the symbol of the Italian Renaissance. You can visit the Town Hall, the Borgia Palace, the Piccolomini Palace and the Cathedral. Montalcino is famous for its San Giovese vineyards (Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino) where you can taste one of the most famous wines in the world in one of the several winehouses of the village.
